Redact a P60Before You Send It
A P60 is the cleanest proof of annual income you have, which is why lenders and agents ask for it. It also carries your National Insurance number. Cover it in your browser. Nothing uploaded.

Why a P60 gets asked for, and what it gives away
A P60 is the end of year certificate your employer issues showing total pay and tax deducted for the tax year. Because it is an employer-issued annual summary rather than a single month, mortgage lenders, letting agents and referencing firms treat it as strong evidence of income.
It also carries your National Insurance number, your payroll number and your employer PAYE reference. The NI number is a lifelong identifier and, unlike a password, cannot be reissued if it is exposed.
The ICO’s data minimisation principle requires that personal data be “adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed”. An organisation reading your annual pay figure has no need of the identifier printed beside it.
A mortgage lender may separately have a legitimate reason to hold your NI number and will ask for it directly. That is different from it travelling silently inside every supporting document copied to brokers, agents and portals.

Your documents never leave your browser
A P60 pairs a full year of earnings with a permanent tax identifier on one page, which is an unusually rich combination for a document people email casually. Mortgage applications in particular generate multiple copies across brokers, lenders and solicitors.
RedactID does not add another copy. There is no upload step, because the redaction runs in the page you are already looking at. We never receive your file, so we cannot lose it.
How that actually worksCommon Questions
What is a P60 and who asks for it?
It is the end of year certificate your employer gives you showing your total pay and the tax deducted for that tax year. Mortgage lenders, letting agents and referencing firms ask for it because an employer-issued annual summary is harder to cherry-pick than a single payslip.
Can I cover my National Insurance number on a P60?
Covering it does not change any pay or tax figure on the document. The ICO's data minimisation principle requires collected data to be limited to what is necessary for the stated purpose, and an income check does not require a lifelong tax identifier. If a lender genuinely needs your NI number for its own reporting, it will ask you for it directly.
What should stay visible on a P60?
Your name, the employer name, the tax year, total pay for the year, total tax deducted and your final tax code. That is the complete picture of what the document is being used to prove.
Is a P60 the same as a payslip?
No. A payslip covers one pay period, a P60 covers a whole tax year. A P60 is issued once a year, usually by the end of May for the tax year just ended. Both carry your NI number, and both are commonly emailed as proof of income.
What if I need to prove income and do not have a P60?
Recent payslips are the usual alternative, or an employer reference letter confirming your salary. Self-employed applicants are typically asked for tax returns, an SA302 tax calculation or accountant-certified accounts instead.
Does RedactID see my P60?
No. Redaction runs in your browser on your own device. The file is not uploaded, not stored and not seen by us.
