For legal professionals — solo and small firms

RedactID vs Redactable
for solo paralegals and small firms

Redactable is built for 10+ attorney firms with formal audit-trail requirements. RedactID is built for everyone Redactable's price tag prices out. If you redact under 50 documents a month, the math is not close.

TL;DR — which one should you pick?

Pick Redactable if you...

  • Are a 10+ attorney firm with a procurement budget and a formal audit-trail requirement
  • Run multi-thousand-document eDiscovery workflows where bulk redaction is core
  • Need court-grade redaction certification as a contractual deliverable
  • Want vector-layer PDF redaction that preserves searchable OCR text post-redaction

Pick RedactID if you...

  • Are a solo paralegal or a small firm — the price difference is huge
  • Redact under 50 documents per month and don't want to count usage
  • Want a hard "nothing leaves your device" privacy guarantee
  • Mostly handle client IDs, intake documents, settlement paperwork, and PDF exhibits
  • Want $7/mo unlimited instead of $19/mo capped at 15 docs

The per-document math

Redactable's pricing is per-document. RedactID's isn't. Here's what that means for a paralegal.

Monthly redaction volumeRedactableRedactID Pro ($7/mo)
5 docs / month$19 ($3.80 each)$7 ($1.40 each)
15 docs / month$19 ($1.27 each)$7 ($0.47 each)
30 docs / month$79 ($2.63 each) — must upgrade$7 ($0.23 each)
50 docs / month$79 ($1.58 each)$7 ($0.14 each)
100 docs / month$79 ($0.79 each)$7 ($0.07 each)
150 docs / month$79 ($0.53 each)$7 ($0.05 each)
200 docs / monthCustom (enterprise tier required)$7 ($0.03 each)

The hidden cost of metered tools

The bigger problem with per-document pricing isn't the dollar amount — it's the mental tax of counting. "Is this one important enough to spend a credit on?" is the wrong question for a paralegal to ask in the middle of preparing a filing. Unlimited pricing eliminates the friction.

Frequently asked questions

What's the actual per-document cost of Redactable's Starter plan?

Redactable's Starter tier is $19/month for 15 documents — so $1.27 per document at the limit, and meaningfully more if you redact fewer. The Pro tier is $79/month for 150 documents (~$0.53 per document). RedactID Pro at $7/month has no document cap, so cost-per-document is whatever you make it — for a paralegal redacting 30 documents a month, that's about $0.23 each.

When does it actually make sense to pay for Redactable instead?

Redactable is the right choice when (a) you need formal court-grade audit trails as a contractual requirement, (b) your firm has 10+ attorneys and a procurement process that prefers paying more for enterprise polish, (c) you redact native-text PDFs and need vector-layer redaction with OCR text preserved, or (d) your eDiscovery workflow expects a specific industry-standard tool. For solo paralegals, single-attorney firms, or anyone redacting under 50 documents/month, the math heavily favors RedactID.

Does RedactID handle legal documents safely?

RedactID processes every document on your device, in your browser — nothing is uploaded to our servers. That property is the easiest one to defend to a managing partner or compliance officer because the data never leaves your control. We also publish a CI-tested no-upload tripwire (open-source) so you can verify the claim. RedactID does not currently issue formal redaction certificates or court-admissibility attestations; if your specific workflow requires those, Redactable's audit-trail features are more developed today.

Can I redact discovery documents or court filings with RedactID?

Yes for individual documents. RedactID's PDF support handles up to 100 pages per file on paid tiers. For multi-thousand-page eDiscovery review, Redactable's bulk workflows are more mature today. We're targeting solo and small-firm workloads first; if you need eDiscovery scale, Redactable or Relativity-class tools remain the better tools.

Does RedactID have an audit log?

The forthcoming RedactID Business tier (currently in waitlist) ships a CSV audit log of every redaction performed by team members, plus a branded watermark on output documents. For solo Pro users, audit is per-account in your dashboard. If your compliance team requires a formal audit-trail certification today, Redactable's enterprise tier has that mature; ours is shipping but unproven.

Can I switch from Redactable to RedactID mid-month?

Yes. Neither tool stores your documents, so switching is just opening RedactID for your next redaction. If you have an active Redactable subscription, cancel before your renewal date to avoid double-paying. RedactID's Pro plan is monthly with self-serve cancel via Stripe Customer Portal.
